163rd Liberian Independence Day with Her Excellency Madam President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf at the Presidential Palace in Sanniquellie, Nimba County

Congratulations, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.  Your dedication to keeping peace in Liberia is evident, and we are glad you have been recognized for your accomplishments.  The first original play by B4 Youth Theatre highlighted a section of your book, This Child Will Be Great, because your words encouraged the people of Liberia to join together and rebuild a great nation.  We understand that more work has to be done, but we thank you for all that you have done in the short period of time.  We trust that if given a second term, you will continue to fulfill your promises to the people of Liberia bringing jobs, providing agricultural assistance so that people can grow their own rice, building schools and clinics.  We see the progress everyday as new roads are built and K-9 education is free; it’s not easy but we can make it step by step.

Congratulations and thank you!

FREE WILL DONATION!

We hope that you will be in attendance!   The youth that performed at City Hall last year for an audience of approximately 300 including the President will be taking a NEW original play to their communities, and they’ve invited some of their friends to join them in writing the play, choreographing the dances, and composing the music.  Don’t miss your chance to be a part of this experience!  There is no charge for attendance; we only ask that you would leave a free will donation to help us cover program costs.  Additional funds will go towards school fees for the children with the greatest needs who are performing.  Thank you in advance for your support!

This upcoming September, the youth of Knox Chapel will be making clothing and sending other daily necessities to the children at the Children’s Rescue Outreach Center in Mt. Barclay.  We thank you for your kindness and support in advance and look forward to building bridges for lasting friendships!  Blessings

The B4 Youth Theatre is taking community issues to the community, but they have to be equipped to share their message.  Today, they visited JFK Hospital for a tour of the outpatient wings in maternity and the general hospital areas.  They were able to see the renovated areas since the war and talk with doctors, nurses and administrators.  These opportunities are important to their development as young people.  It helps them understand how the country is developing, what services are offered, and how they can access these services.  They also learned about how to get into the medical field and what some of the most pressing medical issues are in the country right now.  They were impressed to find out that medical care for ages 0-5 is free by order of the President.  They also learned that a new program being put in place will give free medical care to expecting mothers age 15 and under to encourage them to return to school despite having a child at a young age.  These are just some of the issues that they will cover in their play next weekend.  We hope to see you there!

Special thanks to Dr. McDonald and her wonderful staff for giving our children this experience.  It will surely enrich their lives.

Sinkor B4 Crew Writing Their Scenes

This year we will have two performances.  The first will be held at the Children’s Rescue Outreach Center Orphanage in Mt. Barclay on Saturday, August 13th and the second at Tubman High School in Sinkor on Sunday, August 14th. The students from these locations will be giving combined performances of original writing, dance and music around the themes of collaborative work for keeping the community clean, peer pressure, family tensions and education and more.  Both performances are open to the community at large.  We hope to see you in attendance!

Congratulations, CET!

Calvary Empowerment Team is celebrating their summer camp’s Grand Opening today!  We are excited to celebrate with them as we begin this new partnership.  24 children have been identified as the primary actors, singers and dancers from the CET site.  Approximately 60 youth will be benefiting from regular classes in the arts disciplines.  We are excited to share this opportunity with them to participate in the arts and inspire community change.

Annie, Sam and U Jay from Mt. Barclay are already active in leading this new group of students.  They oversaw the group audition process and each taught a class on the introductory day.  All of the children are having a great time and greeting us with amazing energy when we arrive.

In total, this year’s program will reach approximately 120 youth participants and will see large audiences as we plan on going into communities through schools and churches for this year’s performances.  The students have already begun to identify the issues they will target in this year’s production which should be interesting as the national campaign season is just beginning and already very intense.  It is imperative that children’s voices are heard in this election.  They cannot vote, but every decision made will have a large impact on their lives.

Please check this blog regularly to read and see more about the progress we are making daily.  Blessings!
